"Can you thread the needle?"

21 Oct 2022

We spent a whole week off our usual time table in order to celebrate Black History Month this week and what a fun time we've all had!

We started off by learning about the Windrush generation from 1948 and how they brought their culture of Carnival with them when they settled in Britain. We used the theme of carnival to base our textile project on and began to research carnival costumes and headwear.

We started to design our own based on what we'd researched and devised a success criteria. Once we had our designs, we practised some basic stitching

Then we set about making our design; the first job was to attach two pieces of fabric together so that it would hold firm and not separate.

Then we personalised it to make a vibrant headdress with detailed stitching and had an exotic feel to it.

And our finished pieces - we worked extremely hard to come up with creative designs and are rightly very proud of them. We think we look fantastic

In other news, we also managed to finish off our Pandara writing, all about a moon with life on it in another solar system. We worked hard to make our writing sound interesting and to engage the reader with incredible facts and educate them about a particular species living on Pandora. Here they are.

And now it's time to enjoy a well-earnt half term. See you all on November 1st, left over Halloween sweets welcome cheeky
